December 3, Working away on boat projects.
Installed a TV & Blu-ray player, bilge high water alarm, 2 solar panels, fixed some floor/cabinet stuff. Purchased a wind generator and a used mounting pole, but the pole needs some modification to fit, so I’m going to try and find someplace that can help me with that. Got all the wires pulled around to Read More
November 27, Happy Thanksgiving!
Today is a rough day because we miss our family. But, after we’ve picked up parts and pieces over the last few days I’ve finally gotten a couple of solar panels installed so I can start charging the house batteries without using the generator, which will really help. The boom was causing a shadow on Read More
November 24, spent most of the day working on the house batteries not charging from alternator
It seems so simple, but the way they run the wires in and out of bulkheads, no labels or numbers, all just “black and red”, and that only at the terminals, many of the positive wires are black. So I spent most of the day tearing things up and tracing wires. It would be nice Read More
November 22, first night in the mooring field tense
Spent most of the first night on the mooring babysitting our mooring line, it was chafing badly and I had to reconfigure it in 30 mph winds and rain. Got it to where it was holding good without chafing but had to remove the anchor from the front to do so. Sunday we went to Read More
November 21, exciting day, moved offshore to a mooring
Today we moved Duet to a mooring at the Sunset Bay marina in Stuart. We’ll be here for a week or two as we work on fixing things and preparing for offshore journeys. It was quite exciting heading over here as there was quite a bit of wind and shallow water in the Manatee pocket. Read More
November 20, headsail and mainsail installed!
Now it’s not just a boat, it’s a SAILBOAT! We’ve gotten two of the 3 new sails installed, everything except the spinnaker. This is a big step. Here’s a picture of the mainsail hoisted… Still have to get the spinnaker set up, and have to have pretty light wind for that. Yesterday it was raining and Read More
November 19, Duet finally launched!
Everything finally came together to get the boat in the water on Wednesday. We were planning for a 7:30am launch, but the lift they would use had a bad cylinder and needed to be fixed prior to launch. Once that was done, we put it in the water. After checking things out a bit we Read More
November 15, boat logo installed! Duet has a name!
Here’s the logo that was installed on Duet today, it’s a fantastic design done for us by Melissa Blinson, thanks Melissa! Tested rudder, cleaned out huge port storage locker and threw out all the non-USCG life preservers… A bunch! Also moved lots more food/supplies/tools/stuff aboard…
Friday, November 14, batteries all installed, need to have a dinghy before we launch
Spent lots of time on the battery installation today, they’re all installed and we’ve got full power on board now. Changed the prop zinc, tested lots of the systems on board now that we have power. We still have more stuff to put away and more provisions to buy. We’ve replaced all the outdated safety Read More
