Now it’s not just a boat, it’s a SAILBOAT!
We’ve gotten two of the 3 new sails installed, everything except the spinnaker. This is a big step. Here’s a picture of the mainsail hoisted…
Still have to get the spinnaker set up, and have to have pretty light wind for that. Yesterday it was raining and blowing pretty hard, it was quiet this morning, but was getting a little bit crazier, so we didn’t have the main hoisted for long. Along with the new sails are new sheets, halyards and lines for the outhaul, reefing and boom vang. With this done, everything above the deck has been replaced with new and upgraded equipment. Hopefully we’ll get the spinnaker tomorrow, with a little luck we’ll be able to put it up, but it’s quite likely there’ll be WAY too much wind.
Continuing to work on the charging and windlass issues, here’s a “sundown” picture before we went to dinner.
As you can tell, I’ve still got to get the kayak attached in some sort of meaningful way.
Here’s my fishing picture of the day…
I’ve started shopping for some fishing gear, read a couple of books, hope I can catch more like this one!
Wonderful blog entries and pix, Dean-o. I’ve been heading to the dictionary looking up so many new sailing words ~ I might even know what you’re talking about by the time you arrive down under… lol!
You guys look so very happy on board your new seagoing home. May the excitement and happiness continue!
Cheers 🙂
Looks great in the water, we are very excited for you two. I hope you have some good weather soon to go out and enjoy / test /enjoy some more. Like Molly, I have to go look stuff up, but unlike her, I will never remember any of it.
Have Fun,
Kevin
Hey you guys, Check out this New York Times video that showed up in my inbox today. It’s about the IMOCA Ocean Masters New York to Barcelona Sailing Race. The co-slippers, who had never sailed together before this race, are piloting a 60-foot monohull. Enjoy!
Oops! Here’s the link to the sailing race video: http://www.nytimes.com/video/sports/100000003244101/strangers-at-sea.html?emc=edit_th_20141122&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=62943120
…and make that “co-skippers,” not “co-slippers.” Sheesh!!!
Hi! Nice website and hope you had a nice thanksgiving at the marina!
