December 13, Windlass fixed! Need a longer power cord

So, the big news of the day is that we fixed the windlass. We replaced the controller and the remote, re-wired everything, and it’s up and running with a shiny new remote.

We’ve been running the refrigerator since Tuesday the 9th, trying to get the temperature down and be self sufficient on power. However, it’s looking like we use about 4-5 amps per hour on the fridge, since we’re only getting 3-5 from the 2 solar panels we have installed, and don’t seem to be getting enough wind for the windgen to compensate, we’ve run down our house battery bank to nothing. Running the generator as often as we can, but only have a 10 amp battery charger right now. I think we’re gonna have to get a bigger battery charger, and I’m anxious to get the new bimini on soon so we can mount panels on top of that. Thinking of picking up a 7000 mile extension cord…

We also received our new Iridium “GO” satellite communications device, and after many hours of messing with that, and another hour with their tech support, it looks like the one we got is “NFG”… Non-Functional-Gear”. They’re fedx’ing a new one on Monday, so we should have that on Tuesday.
